Forest decline and increasing tree mortality are of global concern and the identification of the causes is necessary to develop preventive measures. Global warming is an emerging factor responsible for the increasing tree mortality in drought-prone ecosystems. In the southwestern Iberian Peninsula, Mediterranean holm oak open woodlands currently undergo large-scale population-level tree die-off. In this region, temperature and aridity have increased during recent decades, but the possible role of climate change in the current oak mortality has not been investigated.To assess the role of climate change in oak die-off in managed open woodlands in southwestern Spain, we analyzed climate change-related signals in century-long tree ring chronologies of dead holm oaks. We examined the high/low-frequency variability in growth and the relationship between growth and climate.Similar to other Mediterranean forests, growth was favored by precipitation from autumn of the year prior to ring formation to spring of the year of ring formation, whereas high temperatures during spring limited growth. Since the 1970s, the intensity of the high-frequency response to water availability increased simultaneously with temperature and aridity. The growth trends matched those of climatic changes. Growth suppressions occurred during droughts in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Widespread stand-level, age-independent mortality occurred since 2005 and affected trees that cannot be considered old for the species standards.The close relationship between growth and climate indicate that climate change strongly controlled the growth patterns. This suggests that harsher climatic conditions, especially increased aridity, affected the tree performance and could have played a significant role in the mortality process. Climate change may have exacerbated or predisposed trees to the impact of other factors (e.g. intense management and pathogens). These observations could suggest a similar future increase in oak mortality which may occur in more northern oak open woodlands if aridity further increases.  相似文献

本文通过群集的绿脓杆菌在高盐、酸性培养基上生长试验,抗金黄色葡萄球菌的拮抗试验及冷休克试验,证明了绿脓杆菌群集生长效应。主要表现为群集的绿脓杆菌可以在含10~20%NaCl 的培养基上生长;pH4环境中也可生长。同样条件下,对照几乎均为阴性。分散成单个细胞分布的绿脓杆菌对冷反应敏感,群集则有抗冷休克作用。实验条件下,密集的金黄色葡萄球菌生长对分散的绿脓杆菌有拮抗作用,群集则可抵抗这种作用而生长。讨论中初步分析了群集生长效应的机理和对细菌种群在自然生境中的稳定作用。  相似文献

Retardation of bone development was observed in the Koshima troop of free ranging Japanese macaques. In the control group, epiphyseal unions of appendicular long bones generally started to close at about 4 yrs of age and were completed at about 8 or 9 yrs of age. Limb bone unions of the Koshima troop, however, started to close at about 9 yrs of age and completely closed at about 15 yrs of age. In the epiphyseal unions of trunk and girdle bones, the Koshima troop again showed a retardation of closure compared with the control group. Until long bones reached their full length, that is, until about 15 yrs of age, their size was small in the Koshima troop compared with the control group, though the sample size of the Koshima troop was small. After 15 yrs of age, however, many osteometrical measurements of the Koshima troop were nearly the same as controls. A prolonged growing duration compensated for the slow growth and allowed them to become as large as controls. This prolongation may be an adaptation in response to small size during the developmental period. In some parts of the body, however, Koshima macaques failed to reach the adult size of controls. Males were less likely than females to reach full size. Causes of the retardation and small size in the Koshima troop are discussed, but they remain open to further studies.  相似文献

目的:改进现有的检测表皮生长因子受体(EGFR)基因突变的荧光PCR法并开发出新的试剂盒,将其与直接测序法和ARMS法进行对比,验证该试剂盒用于临床诊断的敏感性、特异性和准确性。方法:收集2013年6月至2015年8月手术确诊的141例非小细胞肺癌(NSCLC)的石蜡包埋组织标本。采用盲法分别使用直接测序法、ARMS法和新试剂盒检测EGFR突变,比较新试剂盒与其他两种检测方法的差异,结果不一致时采用三种方法分别重复检验一次。结果:三种方法检测成功率均为100%,新试剂盒与直接测序法测得结果完全一致的比率达75.9%(107/141),在直接测序法测得的96例突变阳性中,92例在新试剂盒检测中得到验证(95.8%)。而直接测序法显示突变阴性的45例中,新试剂盒检测发现了23例突变阳性,两种检测方法的结果存在统计学差异(x2=40.745,P0.05)。与直接测序法进行比较,新试剂盒检测EGFR突变的敏感性、特异性分别为95.8%、48.9%,阳性预测值、阴性预测值分别为80.0%、84.6%,检测准确度为80.9%。以ARMS检测法为金标准,新试剂盒测得结果完全一致的比率达84.4%(119/141),两者的一致性比较好(K=0.749,P0.05),敏感性、特异性分别为94.1%、86.4%。结论:改进后EGFR基因突变检测的试剂盒在技术上较好地控制了检测结果的假阳性和假阴性,该检测方法较直接测序法具有更好的敏感性和准确性,与现有的ARMS法一致性较高。  相似文献

Synthetic part sequences of human pituitary growth hormone (hGH 176–191 and hGH 177–191) corresponding to residues 176–191 or 177–191 of the hormone have been tested for their effects on glycogen and pyruvate metabolism in the rat, both in vivo and in vitro. When injected, the peptides caused transient increases in blood glucose and lactate, while decreasing the activity ratio of glycogen synthase in muscle, adipose tissue and liver and of pyruvate dehydrogenase in muscle and adipose tissue, but not in liver. These decreases were associated with the conversion of the enzymes from their active to their inactive forms, since the peptides did not affect the total amount of either the synthase or the dehydrogenase. The time course of the effect on the enzymes was similar to that for the effect on blood metabolites, and responses for synthase were produced over the range 0.07–7 nmols hGH 177–191/kg body weight. Phosphorylase activity was not affected by the peptides, nor was the capacity to dispose of injected L-lactate. Experiments with adipocytes and hepatocytes showed that the peptides also affected glycogen synthase and pyruvate dehydrogenase activities in vitro. The peptides had no effect on the overall rate of gluconeogenesis from lactate by hepatocytes. However, at times corresponding to those at which glycogen synthase was inactivated, the peptides caused increased incorporation of lactate into free glucose and decreased incorporation into glycogen. It was concluded that the peptides acted directly on their target tissues, and that the observed hyperlactataemia was the result of the inactivation of pyruvate dehydrogenase. The addition lactate increased the flux through the gluconeogenic pathway, and appeared as glucose because the peptide also inactivated glycogen synthase. Thus, the hyperglycaemia produced by hGH 177–199 and related peptides is explicable in terms of a modified Cori Cycle.  相似文献

Suspension cultures of ‘Chang liver’ cells were synchronized by preincubation in a glutamine-deficient medium or by thymidine blockade. Specific arginase activity varied in the synchronized cultures, being high when the number of S-phase cells was maximal. A relationship between high arginase activity and a high percentage of (S+G2) cells was also found when unsynchronized cells were separated by velocity sedimentation. The increase in arginase activity near the G1/S border was totally inhibited in the presence of cycloheximide. The rate of decrease in activity after addition of the drug indicated that the variations in the rate of synthesis of the enzyme, while the rate of degradation was more or less constant, corresponding to 4–6% per h. The role of arginase in cells lacking a urea cycle and the regulation of arginase activity in ‘Chang liver’ cells is discussed.  相似文献

Summary The potential of a number of fluorescent pseudomonad strains to promote growth of guayule plants in the greenhouse and in the field was studied. A number of bacterial strains collected from guayule roots and rhizospheres promoted growth of greenhouse-grown plants but not field-grown plants. Percent increase in shoot dry weight of 12-week-old, greenhouseinoculated guayule plants ranged from 17 to 75 nine weeks after inoculation compared to non-inoculated plants. The submerged vegetation of Lake Kariba is described in relation to degree of slope (lake morphometry), depth and light transparency. The direct gradient analysis technique — canonical correspondence analysis and the TWINSPAN classification programs were used to analyse the data set. The western end of the lake with low transparency has a low species diversity (with Vallisneria aethiopica dominating). Species diversity increases with increased transparency in the other parts of the lake. The classification revealed monospecific communities for all species as well as mixed communities with Lagarosiphon as the associate species with the broadest distribution. The ordination revealed a first axis strongly related to depth and transparency gradients and the second axis related to slope. Vallisneria aethiopica has a growth form adapted to grow in shallow areas subjected to wave action. Potamogeton octandrus also growing in shallow areas is restricted to sheltered areas. Lagarosiphon ilicifolius precluded from the shallow exposed areas grows at medium depth but has a growth form adapted to tap light at the surface. Summary Yield stability of determinate and indeterminate dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars was compared using regression of genotypic performance on environmental means. Yields of 28 dry bean cultivars differing in plant growth habit and commercial class designation were obtained from 42 Michigan performance nurseries over the 6 year period 1980 to 1985. The determinate type I large-seeded kidney and cranberry bean cultivars had below-average seed yield and large mean square deviations from regression. Lower yielding determinate small-seeded navy cultivars had low deviation mean square values, while higher yielding determinate navy cultivars had correspondingly higher mean square deviations from regression. Although seed yield of cultivars with an indeterminate growth habit was greater than determinate cultivars, prostrate type III indeterminate cultivars had deviation mean square values equivalent to those of large-seeded determinate cultivars. The erect, short vine type II indeterminate cultivars (architypes) had greater than average seed yields and minimum deviations from regression. Compared with other plant types, the architype group showed a greater yield response to more productive environments, with regression coefficient values significantly greater than unity. These results indicate that the type II growth habit offers the breeder the best opportunity of obtaining greater seed yield without incurring loss of yield stability as occurs with the type I and type III growth habits. Since the dry bean cultivars utilized in this study represent two distinct centers of domestication, the regression analysis suggests that cultivars from the predominant genetic center demonstrate more yield stability. A non-significant rank correlation coefficient between the combined and separate analyses for deviation mean square values of large-seeded cultivars implies that commercial dry bean classes should be compared separately based on center of domestication.Contributions from Michigan Bean Commission, Michigan Bean Shippers Assoc. and Michigan Agric.
